FERTILIZER:

Fertilizing water plants should be kept to a minimum to avoid high pH readings, particles leeching into the water, and chronic algae.

Having said that, tropical and hardy lilies and lotuses are heavy feeders, and require a lot of fertilizer in order to grow and bloom to their full potential.

Lilies require one fertilizer spike per tub per year.
Lotuses require two fertilizer spikes per tub per year.
Potted plants require marble-sized pieces of fertilizer– one piece per pot per year.

To fertilize lilies and lotus, hold the fertilizer spike with the pointed end down, and drive it firmly into the soil at the edge of the tub. The fertilizer must be buried and completely covered over. Since it is slow releasing fertilizer, it will take up to three months to completely dissolve.
