ADDING WATER TO A NEW POND:

The easiest way to determine the volume of a pond is to record the water meter before and after filling it. If possible, avoid household use of water during the filling process.

Once you have added fresh water to a newly built pond, allow it to sit for 24-48 hours before adding plants or fish. During this time, the water will undergo an “aging” process whereby healthy bacteria begin to colonize, the water warms up, the pH (acidity/alkalinity) of the water will balance, and chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals present in fresh water will have been neutralized.

When adding tap water to an established pond, always add it slowly. Even a two degree change in water temperature can be stressful to fish.

Always “condition” fresh city water or well water. Conditioners work instantly to neutralize chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, copper and ammonia from fresh water. Remember, even small traces of these harmful substances will irritate fish and could damage delicate gill tissue.

Tip: Regardless of whether you add fresh city water or well water to your pond, always use Pond Detoxifier to neutralize chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, copper and ammonia.
